Heinkel He-111H, Matchbox 1/72nd

Heinkel He-111 H6

NOTES: One of the earliest aircraft I finished after my return to modeling, and the oldest survivor. The others; Matchbox Bf-110C, Bf-109E, Fw-190A, Do-335, B-17G, Me-410 and Ar-234B, an Airfix Me-262, a Revell Ju-88A - these have all been trashed or modified since. This model's days are also numbered, but I keep it to remind myself that I have got better! I am also amazed that the various machine guns sticking out everywhere haven't been damaged, despite the loss of one of the starboard rotor blades. Mistakes I made on this kit are legion - I trimmed the decals down to minimise carrier film, but applied directly to a matt finish with nothing but the decal glue to hold them down, resulting in their subsequent lifting and peeling over time. The camouflage scheme is actually from an He-111H-22, and wouldn't have appeared on an H-6, certainly not on this coded aircraft (which reflects my lack of knowledge at the time). I filled some joins (very badly), and didn't prime the model afterwards, resulting in tonal variations from plastic to filler. There is little internal detail, I fact I tried to hide by putting in the crew, who look like tailor shop dummies! Overall, I now hate this model! At the time, however, it was the best thing I had done. Now I feel almost ashamed of it, though I temper this by reasoning that I didn't feel that way about it before, so I shouldn't now.
